If one of your goals this year is to grow your business, I want to share a secret with you… there’s a system for that! Perhaps you are frustrated as you continue to work long hours with diminishing returns. Maybe you are feeling burnt out and overwhelmed instead of excited and inspired. Perhaps the details of the daily tasks keep you so busy that growth seems like a distant fantasy. These are common struggles for entrepreneurs, and there is a way to move forward. The secret is to systemize your business. Here’s how:
1. Map out your core tasks
What are the most important tasks you complete on a regular basis? Put pen to paper and brainstorm all of the essential tasks that need to happen to serve your clients and keep your business running smoothly. It may help to divide tasks into departments (even if you are a one-person team right now). Once you have everything written out, you can highlight the most critical tasks as a place to start creating your systems!
2. Document your Processes
Document a step-by-step process for each task that you identified above. Oftentimes, just by writing it out, you may see a more efficient way to tackle things, or perhaps identify a piece of software that may help you. This part is best completed with a partner, so consider asking a colleague or a friend to help!
3. Keep your Systems Organized
Store your documented systems in a familiar place so that they are easily used and shared. By following your systems, you provide consistency to both your customers and to employees/contractors. Having these systems on hand will make training a breeze when you add to your team!
Without systems in place, your business will reach a glass ceiling, and you will be stuck on the hamster wheel. A well-systemized business is efficient, valuable, and ready to grow. You will also find that you are able to step out of the day-to-day operations and enjoy more time doing what you love.
