Holiday gift giving can be stressful for business owners. Deciding if they should give gifts, who they should give gifts to, how much to spend, what to give and when to give it, are decisions that need to be made every year. Something meant to be fun and joyous ends up causing major anxiety!
Not sure where to start? We’ve put together some best practices to ensure that you get it right every year.
Personalize Your Gifts
Don’t order 30 jelly of the month subscriptions and send them to all of your clients. Consider your client and their likes and hobbies. Find a gift that will be meaningful to them, so that they know it came from the heart.
Don’t Overspend
If you spend $500 coffee maker, that’s overdoing it! Keep gifts in line with how much a client spends with you to ensure no one feels uncomfortable about the gift. You also want to make sure you’re not going over your budget for work expenses.
Shop Local or Handmade
Buying local not only contributes to your community and the small businesses in it, it will provide your client with a gift that is unique and ensure they did not receive the same gift from 10 other people. Local handmade gifts also add that extra warm and fuzzy feeling that you truly took the time to think of a meaningful gift for your clients.
Add a Special Note
Is there any better feeling in the world than getting a handwritten letter or card? More than eight in 10 American adults think handwritten notes are more thoughtful than emails or texts. It only takes a sentence or two to tell them why you appreciate them.
It’s All About the Package
The first thing they see is the wrapping. A great gift deserves a worthy presentation.
Again, you don’t need to spend a lot of time or money to pull this off. Non-traditional wrapping materials can work as well: Fabric, tissue paper, or even foil can help you put the finishing touch on your gift. You can even get beautiful and affordable wrapping items at your local Dollar Store!
The best gifting experiences come down to wrapping, timing, and delivery. Nail those things, and you’re sure to make them smile.
We wanted to give a quick shout-out to some of our favourite local small businesses. Please consider supporting them this holiday season.
